Sastraprakasika is a treasure-house of books for voracious
readers having interest in the field of Religion, Culture,
Philosophy, Mythology , etc.
Our Sastram can be broadly classified into six categories.
First, the Sruti which is the VEDA. The Vedas is further
divided into four,
- Rig Veda consists mainly of Rik mantras, poetic compositions.
- Yajur Veda consists of mantras in prose form.
- Sama Veda consisits of sama mantras set to music.
- Atharvana Veda consists of mantras by rishis.
Second, the Sutras (aphorisms) which are
capsule statements, cryptic messages.
Third, the Smritis which are poems,
meterical literature mainly composed by the great sages. It is
remembered wisdom. The content is Divine.
Fourth, the Puranas which are 36 in number
and together with 18 upapuranas they are expanded literature. Though
ancient they are relevant even now.
Fifth, the Ithihasas -history based
literature both the Ramayana and the Mahabharata.
Sixth, the Bhasyams or commentery of the
above texts in sanskrit.
A majority of books available are in English and
quite a few in Tamil. Selected texts in Sanskrit are also
available.The books that are available can broadly be categorised
under the following heads: i) Religion, Philosophy& Culture. ii)
Itihasa, Puranas & Smrtis. iii) Prakarana Granthas. iv)Upanisads.
v)Brahma Sutra. vi)Gita. vii)Religious Books. viii)Prayers & Pujas.
x) Books for children. x)Biographies.
